When I assign a location to an image via the Location sheet, resulting in the GPS Latitude and Longitude being set, I would like for this to also set the EXIF GPS Date Stamp and Time Stamp to the current date and time. (Also, the GPS date and time stamps seem like they should be included when copy/pasting location tags.)
Note that I saw someone else asking about setting these to the EXIF Original date/time, and I want to be clear that that is not what I am looking for, as the purpose of the GPS date and time stamps is explicitly to capture when the location data was determined, not when the image was captured.
My main use case is scans of old family photo negatives. There is no GPS data available, I’m just setting location based on original notes/captions or manual research based on context and identifiable photo elements. I would like the GPS date and time stamps to reflect the time that the location was actually chosen. This should probably be optional behavior, as evidenced by someone else posting that they wanted to set these to match the capture timestamp. Also, some people may for instance want to leave the timestamps empty to reflect the fact that the location was set manually. (That’s something I considered for my own usage, but decided that I preferred actually capturing when the location was set.)
Thanks for MetaImage! I know there’s a big revision underway; good luck on that effort.
