Full Disk Access related fail

MetaImage cannot write data to files. Can load photographs and make edits, however when I “Save all files,” this error message appears:

[!WARNING]

Please check your files, some tasks have failed. Note that enabling full disk access in the system settings is recommended.

JSON file creation failed

Full Disk Access is enabled for MetaImage.

The file permissions are set to read and write.

Operating system: Sonoma 14.6.1

MetaImage version: Paddle 2.6.7 (6306)

i am not able to run the program as an administrator. This should not make a difference. This is just full disclosure.

Thanks for the feedback. Is this happening with all files or just some?

Jeremy,

All files, at least I have not been able to find any to which I can write. As stated, I do not have Administrator permissions, however Full Disk Access is granted to MetaImage.

Full Disk Access is a significant advantage that enables the app to bypass file copying for security reasons. However, it’s not a strict requirement. Notably, the app is compatible with sandboxing. During the writing process, MetaImage creates temporary JSON files in the temporary folder accessible through the app settings panel > advanced > backup folder. Unfortunately, for some reason, in your case, the app cannot write to this folder on your Mac. I’m at a loss to understand the origin of this issue. I’ll test it myself and let you know if I can reproduce it.

@jeremyvizzini Any progress on this? I checked, and my user account has read and write access to the back-up folder. I explored changing the location of the folder, but it does no look like this is a possibility.

Hello Frederick,

I’m currently working on major changes to the core engine of MetaImage to improve processing speed, especially for reading and writing operations. These updates involve significant internal modifications, and it’s possible that the issue you encountered may be resolved once this new engine is released.

That said, at the moment, there’s no clear reason why MetaImage shouldn’t work on your computer. I suspect the issue might be related to the JSON creation step, which involves writing to a temporary folder. If your system has restricted access, perhaps due to your administrative status, MetaImage might be unable to read or write to that location. This method is standard practice, but restricted permissions could interfere with it.

I recommend checking the path of the debug folder in MetaImage’s settings, and asking your system administrator whether any access limitations have been applied to temporary directories.

Best regards

There’s no way to change that location because it’s not intended for final users.
